RADIATION OF SELECTED POLYMERS AND MODEL COMPOUNDS

Abstract

Chemical investigation of phenolic resins was made using a model compound approach. Monomers or linear polymers of known structure were subjected to either electron bombardment ogammarradition, and the chemical and physical changes produced were followed. The effects of electron bombardment and gamma radiation were investigated on phenolic compounds. Experiments were performed on 1-phenoxy-3-diethylamino-2-propanol, an epoxy resimodelcompound, and a methanol solution of 2,2' -dihydroxydiphenylmethane. Electron bombardment was also done on these two systems, to allow comparison of effects resulting from the two particle types. (Author)
