ON THE OPTIMAL CONTROL OF SYSTEMS WITH DISTRIBUTED PARAMETERS

Abstract

THREE VERY GENERAL OPTIMAL CONTROL PROBLEMS ARE FORMULATED WHEREIN THE CONTROLLED PROCESS IS GOVERNED BY A PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION AND THE CONTROL FORCES ARE SUBJECTED TO CONSTRAINTS. As an example of the second of these three problems the author considers the optimal control of the temperature, Q, within a metal slab as it moves through a furnace. (Author)
