SIMPLIFIED TREATMENT OF A MODEL FOR SUBSIDENCE

Abstract

A model for the subsidence of the earth over worked-out mines has been treated by Leser BRL Rept. no. 1131, Apr 61 and Giese BRL Rept. Here the same model is treated in a much simpler way to arrive at an integral equation related to, equivalent to, and slightly simpler than the one they found, discussed, and solved. A simpler method of making engineering estimates is proposed. A conjecture of possible mathematical interest is stated. (Author)
