THE EFFECT OF FLUID INJECTION ON THE DRAG OF FLAT PLATES AT HIGH REYNOLDS NUMBERS

Abstract

An analysis of the effects of fluid injection on the drag of flat plates with turbulent boundary layers indicates no reduction in over-all drag even though the local skin friction is less with fluid injection than without. This is accounted for by the drag due to the momentum changes of the injected fluid when taken from the ambient flow. (Author)
