INDUSTRIAL UNITS FOR WELDING BY ELECTRON BEAM
Abstract
Two automatic industrial units for welding workpieces by an electron beam under conditions of high vacuum are described. The ELU-1 and ELU-2 units consist of an operating chamber, mechanisms for holding and moving the workpiece, an electron gun, vacuum station, high voltage power-supply source, thr e-phase interrupter, and gun control panel. Welding tests on refractory, heat-resistant, rare and readily oxidizing metals and alloys (Zr, Ta, Cu, W, Mo, Al, and steel) are discussed.
