DIFFERENTIAL ANALYZER STUDIES OF DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF GAS LUBRICATED RIGID VERTICAL ROTORS

Abstract

A study is made of the motion of a vertical rotor with prescribed initial conditions using fluid film forces based on the steady whirl analysis. Specific objectives are three-fold: first, the calculated motion of the rotor can be checkedAGAINST EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE IN ORDER TO VERIFY THE VALIDITY OF THE HYPOTHESIS WHICH WAS EMPLOYED TO CALCULATE THE FLUID FILM FORCES; SECONDLY, THE STABILITY OF THE SYNCHRONOUS WHIRL MOTION WILL BE EXAMINED; AND THIRDLY, WE HOPE TO DETERMINE THE FFECT OF DAMPING AND COUPLING TERMS ON THE STABILITY OF SYNCHRONOUS WHIRL. The dynamical equations of the rotor are integrated on the PACE differential analyzer. (Author)
