QUALIFICATION TESTS OF GENERAL ELECTRIC MODEL 2CM270D3 ELECTRIC STARTERS, BUAER MODEL E-5. Final rept., by J. R. Cipparrone. 5 Oct 61, 1v. incl. illus. tables (Rept. no. (Tests, Helicopter engines, Turbopropeller jet engines.) Open-ended Terms: T58 engines. The results of qualification tests of General Electric Co. model 2CM270D3 electric starters designed for use on General Electric model T58 turbo-shaft engines are discussed. The model 2CM270D3 starter incorporated modifications which were designed to correct deficiencies which existed in model 2CM270D2 starters. The results of tests established that the starter meets all of the performance and durability requirements specified for a BUAER type E-5 starter in Amendment 2 of Military Specification MIL-S7780B(Aer) of 25 June 1958. However, suitable modifications to permit disassembly of the clutch are considered mandatory; in addition, improvement in the stability of the clutch assembly is considered desirable. (Author)
