THE ACCELERATED CORROSION OF METALS

Abstract

Linear rate of oxidation of Al in presence of HgI2 studied from 36.4 to 100% oxidation at 30.0 C. Slopes of oxidation rate curves increased greatly with increased relative humidity. Greatest slope increase noted in 60-80% RH range. Maximum oxidation rate 0.675 mg O2/sq cm/ min at 100% RH.
