WAVE MOTION IN A TWO COMPONENT PLASMA WITH ANISOTROPIC PRESSURE

Abstract

Results for the propagation of small amplitude waves in a plasma with anisotropic pressure tensor are summarized. It is shown that the anisotropy of the pressure tensor has an appreciable effect on the propagation and decay of waves in a plasma. It is also shown that an anisotropy in the electron pressure can lead to an instability of hydromagnetic waves. (Author)
