THE CONVAIR FREE JET HYPERSONIC SHOCK TUNNEL. PART I. THE STATE OF THE WORKING GAS ENTERING THE TEST SECTION. PART II. HYPERSONIC SHOCK TUNNEL JET ANALYSIS (IDEAL GAS)

Abstract

The thermodynamic, electronic, and chemical state of the working gas of a shock tube as it enters the test or working section is investigated. Included are real gas effects and an evaluation of the effect of the bursting diaphragm on the gas state. The bursting diaphragm was found to have negligible effect on the state of the working gas entering the shock tube test section. The results are presented in graphical form showing the states which would exist at the test section entrance as a function of the driverdriven gas diaphragm pressure ratios when the driver gas is a mixture of Helium-OxygenHydrogen.
