A HYDROMAGNETIC D-C CONVERTER

Abstract

THE EQUATIONS OF HYDROMAGNETICS AND CHANNEL FLOW ARE PRESENTED. THE HYDROMAGNETIC DC CONVERTER IS DISCUSSED, EQUATIONS AND AN EQUIVALENT CIRCUIT ARE DERIVED. THE PERFORMANCE OF THE FLUID GENERATOR WITH ARMATURE REACTION IS GIVEN, AND THE END EFFECTS ARE DISCUSSED. THE THEORY IS APPLIED TO THE DESIGN OF A CONVERTER, DESIGN EQUATIONS ARE DEVELOPED, AND A DESIGN EXAMPLE FOR A CONVERTER WITH AN EFFICIENCY GREATER THAN 50( IS WORKED THROUGH. THE EFFECT OF ARMATURE REACTION ON THE DESIGNIS DEMONSTRATED TO SHOW$ THAT COMPENSATION IS NECESSARY. THE HYDRAULIC DESIGN OF THE CONVERTER IS DISCUSSED. THE EXPERIMENTAL MODEL OF THE CONVERTER IS DESCRIBED, AND THE THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL PERFORMANCES ARE COMPARED. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ARE PRESENTED IN A SERIES OF GRAPHS, AND IT IS SHOWN THAT THE QUANTITIES VARY AS EXPECTED
