RAIN REPELLENT

Abstract

Formulations based on acidified silicone oils in combin tion with acidified dimethyldiethoxysilane suffer a loss in rain repellence on storage. The use of n-hexyl ether in combination with acidified dimethyldiethoxysilane has been found to eliminate haze in the film resulting from application of the rain repellent based on acidified dimethyldiethoxysilane alone to a heated windshield. This system shows satisfactory repellence after one month's aging at 160 F. when stored in a metal aerosol can lined with a phenolic-epoxy coating. (Author)
