PROTON MAGNETIC RESONANCE STUDIES OF POLYCRYSTALLINE URANIUM OXIDE-HYDRATES. I. BETA-U032H20

Abstract

The broad-line proton magnetic resonance spectra of polycrystalline samples of the compound formulated empirically as beta-UO32H2O have been investigated in the temperature range 77-350 K. The second moment of the absorption spectrum at 77 K indicates that some of the protons in the crystal are not present in water of crystallization and an analysis of the line shape shows that the compound is the trihydrate of pyrouranic acid, U2O5(OH)2.3H2O. The chemical properties of the compound are accounted for on the basis of this formula. (Author)
