STRATO LAB HIGH =4 POST FLIGHT REPORT

Abstract

The development of a manned, stratospheric balloon that was successfully flown to an altitude of 79,000 feet with a duration of 28 hours is described. Modification and preparation of the gondola and related systems, preliminary test of the balloon gondola system, development of a reinforced welded polyethylene seam, and inflation and flight tests utilizing balloons with this seam are discussed. A description of the flight operation is presented. Aerostat performance, system stability, sealed cabin and ecological system performance, communications and electrical system performance, and other subsystem and equipment perfrmanceare presented.
