DEEP DRAWN AUSFORMING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM 12' ' DIA. ROCKET MOTOR CHAMBERS

Abstract

The recommended deformation temperature range is 1100 to 1200 F for ausforming of 300-M steel. This temperature range results in good tensile properties with a minimum of non-martensitic transformation products. Deformations of at least 50% must be attained to achieve yield strengths of over 300,000 psi. The best combination of strength and ductility is obtained by tempering between 600 and 700 F. The deformed austenite can be held at 1000 F without deterioration of properties. (Author)
