OPTIMIZATION OF THERMOELECTRIC ENERGY CONVERTERS

Abstract

The work on a selected system, designated thermal system no. 1, was completed using a computer program. Thermal system no. 1 is based on saturated steam at 533 K as the heat source and 291 K water as the heat sink. Mg0-Ti02 ceramic was made into cap ule bodies and used for successful encapsulation of lead telluride. Seebeck coefficient of Mg3Sb2 was measured in the 300 to 1250 K temperature range, the values ranging from 100 to 159 microvolts per degrees K. Electrical measurements were performed on CrSb0.9Se0.1, including Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistance. A number of II-IV compounds was prepared and their thermoelectric properties measured.
