UNITED STATES AIR FORCE WEAPON SYSTEM TESTING
Abstract
A brief description is given of the United States Air Force testing of manned aircraft. The presentation was designed for allied nationals who possess little or no previous knowledge of USAF flight test concepts. The requirements, management, organization, and procedures of the test cycle from the contractor testing of the prototype aircraft through the operational testing of the production aircraft by the using command are presented. The general test system is discussed showing the management organization and the integration of the major objectives of the contractor and Air Force testing. Examples are used to demonstrate the number of aircraft involved and the degree of integration of personnel and objectives. Specific tests in each category are mentioned and major ARDC tests such as climatic and adverse weather performance and stability, weapon system evaluation, and fire control system tests are briefly described.
