SOME PROBLEMS IN PLASTICITY
Abstract
An investigation, which is still incomplete, was initiated with a view toward the proposal of a model by means of which the temperature distribution within the Earth may be established. It is the purpose of this investigation to provide a completely new approach to the problem, based upon the incremental strain theory of plasticity.Although it may be possible later to disti guish between the various theories proposed based on an elastic-plastic model, it is the immediate purpose to investigate only the present temperature field. This may be done in a manner which avoids detailed knowledge of thermal history. (Author)
