ON THE EFFICIENCY OF ADHESIVE JOINTS

Abstract

HE JOINT CONSIDERED IN THIS SERIES OF EXPERIMENTS WAS A LAP JOINT IN ALUMINUM WITH AN OVERLAP OF 1/2 INC . HE ADH SIVE USED WAS Epon 826. There is a sh rp peak in the strength value of Epon 8 6 lap oints w en the adhesive thick ess is 0.006 in. This op imum ca be readily obt ine by using a lig t sprinkli g of glass be s of the same di et r o th we adh sive before applying pressure to the joints. The beads ill act as spacers a d their effect in reducing the area or as stress raisers appears secondary. (Author)
