EQUILIBRIUM CHARACTERISTICS OF SAND BEACHES IN THE OFFSHORE ZONE

Abstract

A theoretical and experimental inves igation of equilibrium profiles a i orting i th offs ore zone of s d beaches is described. The investigation was designed to test the applicability of existing idealized theories to the prediction of equilibrium characteristics of laboratory sand beaches. Two different sediment motion equilibrium criteria are considered; the first, in which the moments on a stationary particle are in equilibrium, is called incipient motion and the second, in which the particle is oscill i g i h o t mo io is called establis d motion. The e p ri ent l uipment consisted of a 100 foot long, glass-walled wave tank containing a bulkhead-type av mac i nd n p ri tal be c (Au or)
