GUIDANCE AND CONTROL DURING DIRECT-DESCENT PARABOLIC REENTRY

Abstract

Four guidance and control techniques applicable to the reentry from parabolic orbits of vehicles having low lift-drag ratios are described. Techniques include pilot and automatic control to a reference trajectory and the use of prediction to improve and simplify guidance procedures. Comparison between systems is made and areas where further study may be profitable are indicated.
