CONSISTENT P1 ANALYSIS OF AQUEOUS URANIUM-235 CRITICAL ASSEMBLIES

Abstract

The lethargy-dependent equations of the consistent Pl approximation to the Boltzmann transport equation for slowing down neutrons, as developed in this present study, was used as the basis of an IBM 704 computer program. This program was used to compute the age of fission neutrons in water as 26.5 sq. cm. as compared to a recent experimental value given as 27.86 sq. cm. The Fourier transform of the slowing-down kernel for water to indium resonance energy calculated here compares well with the Fourier transform of the kernel for water. This method of calculation has also been applied to UO2F2-H2O solution critical assemblies. Theoretical results established for both unreflected and fully reflected critical assemblies compare well with available experimental data.
