S. G. CONCRETE MIX TESTER

Abstract

The proprietary version of the S. G. Concrete Mix Tester detects only those changes greater than 0.03 in water cement ratio (W/C). The instrument cannot be considered a reliable tool for use by field personnel who seek to detect departures as small as + or - 0.01 from the desired W/C. The mechanics involved in any laboratory experimentation with the instrument, let alone experiments in the field, are intricately related to its electrical circuitry. Similarly the electrical resistance of the medium is a closely related function of the timedependent condition of t e cement paste (or cement paste matrix in the case of mortars or concretes). For these principal reasons, the measurements attainable with the instrument (in its present commercial form) cannot be considered free of erratic trends. (Author)
