CRYSTAL CHEMISTRY STUDIES

Abstract

The study revealed that order-disorder of both the normal inverse type as well as possible 1:3 ordering on the octahedral sites is a common phenomenon in spinel structure phases. The existence of an equilibrium second-order phase transition in these phases was established. The usefulness of X-ray diffraction intensities, absorption spectra in the visible and IR, and lattice parameters to characterize the degree of disorder was demonstrated. Work on the synthesis of new ferrimagnetic materials is directed to the study of phases present and relative stabilities of successive Te oxides under controlled oxygen pressures. The building of simple crystal growth equipment was started.
