MOLYBDENUM STRUCTURAL COMPONENT PROGRAM
Abstract
Preliminary test and work requests were prepared for evaluating the Mo-0.5% Ti and TZM (Mo-0.5% Ti-0.10% Zr) alloy sheet. Studies were initiated for the design of a full scale rudder to be built from one or a combination of these two Mo alloys. Data are presented on tests to evaluate the feasibility of dimpling TZM, preliminary tests indicated that the dimpling of Mo sheet appears feasible using conventional ram coin dimpling equipment. Some evaluation was made on the compatibility of Nb- coated parts in contact with Mo- coated panels. Test results indicated that Co fittings could be nested between Mo structures without experiencing adverse affects. (Author)
