HEXAGONAL MAGNETIC MATERIALS FOR MICROWAVE APPLICATIONS
Abstract
Anisotropic samples of oxidic magnetic substances possessing hexagonal structures were prepared and studied for their permanent magnet and microwave properties. Production of circumferentially oriented toroids of one of these materials is discussed. An investigation was made of the effect on the microwave properties of the partial replacement of Fe ions by Al or (Ti + Co) ions in highly anisotropic magnetic materials. The most striking effect was the rapid change of the room temperature anisotropy field with composition. The ferrimagnetic resonance linewidth of ferromagnetic materials in the oriented polycrystalline form was about 2000 oersteds. Resonant isolators with Al substituted materials performed satisfactorily. The feasibility of tailor-making microwave magnetic materials having anisotropy fields in the range 7000 to over 5000 oersteds is seen.
