DISTORTION APPROXIMATION TO CROSS SECTIONS FOR EXCITATION OF 1S-2P TRANSITION OF HYDROGENIC IONS BY BARE NUCLEI

Abstract

A high power CW microwave energy converter is being designed an built. The energy converter will be based on a crossed-field traveling-wave interaction. Earlier results of the investigation disclosed difficultie in obt ining sufficient emis ion current from an emitting cathode within the interaction region. Sufficient current will be pr vided by an electron gun which ill inject a hollow beam into the interaction region. An electron gun for this purpose was evaluated in a beam tes er. Measurements indicate that, with a slight decrease in the diameter of th c ntral electrode, the interception current should be elimina ed and the design s ould be completely satisfactory. The anode assembly for the energy converter, including the waveguide windows, was readied for the inclusion of the electron gun assembly. (Author)
