THE KINETICS OF AIR IN A HYPERSONIC SHOCK WAVE

Abstract

A survey of the kinetics of air in a hypersonic shock wave with temperatures ranging between 2000 and 6000 K and density ratios / o ranging between 10-4 and 10-5/2 was made. Best values of the rate constants were found for the following nonionic reactions: O2 + M O + O + M N2 + M N + N + M NO + M N + O + M N2 + O NO + N The rate constants for the ionic reaction N + O NO+ + ewhich was found to be the predominant ion- and electron-producing reaction were also reported.
