DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND TEST OF A JET AIRCRAFT ARRESTING BARRIER ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM

Abstract

Results are presented of a program for the development of a system to engage a moving aircraft with the cross-runway cable connected to an energy absorbing system. It is designed to engage hook equipped jet aircraft or the landing gear of unmodified jet aircraft in a velocity range of 10 to 200 kn ts. The cable is eject d from a slot in the runway by release of high pressure air. An electr nic control system is utilized so hat the release of air and subsequent cable ejection will occur at the proper time and at the correct lateral position. The evolution of the equipment is described from the conceptars feasible and practical. (Author)
