EFFECT OF FLUORINE ON THE CARBONYL STRETCHING FREQUENCY OF ESTERS

Abstract

The carbo yl str c i g fr ue cies of 1 es ers of perfluori ated normal acids and 1 sters of p r i lly fluori ed nor l alcohols were measured with a precision of 1/.5 cm. The carbonyl str ching fr ue cies of the fluorinated e er were fou d o b consist ntly ig er a the carbonyl s r c i g frequ nci of he correspon i g unfluorina d s r d depend t on the amount and position of the fluorine substituents. Equations are presen ed for the behavior of th c rbonyl stretching fr uency as fu ctio of fluori position an number and t c rbo yl tr ching fr uencies in th rs it fluori subs i u ion in he alkyl segment.
