INELASTIC NEUTRON GAMMA ANGULAR CORRELATION FOR THE C12(N,N' GAMMA) C12 REACTION

Abstract

The azimuthal correlation of inelas ically scattered neutrons and gamma rays from 14-Mev neutrons on C-12 was measured. The resultant angular distribution was found to be isotropic for the inelastic neutrons and gamma rays scattered at right angles to the incident n utron beam. This distribution is comp red with a plane-w ve reatmen of direct interaction theory and is found to be in disagreement. The theoretical a gular dependency is dominated by a (cos 4 phi) TERM FOR THE ASSUMPTION OF EITHER EXTRE E L-S or j-j coupling for the nuclear wave function. (Author)
