ANALYSIS OF THE JUNGHANS ESCAPEMENT SPRING; RESTORING TORQUE VS. ANGULAR DEFLECTION FOR STATIC CONDITIONS

Abstract

An analysis of the Junghans spring was extended from the usual linear relations to examination of the nonlinear limitations. Large deflections of a cantilever beam, with a concentrated end load perpendicular to the beam, form the basis of the analysis. The spring constant (restoring torque vs. angular deflections) for various arbor/length ratios is calculated in dimensionless form and plotted as a function of angular deflection. (Author)
