COMBUSTION OF ELEMENTAL BORON

Abstract

Equipment was constructed for carrying out experiments for the determination of the kinetics and the mechanism of the reaction of various oxidizers with elemental B. Kinetic experiments will be carried out with a quartz microbalance in a flow system operated at low pressures. Surface reaction mechanisms are being investigated by means of reactions carried out in situ with a B rod inside a mass spectrometer. Preliminary experiments indicate that BF is the species envolved from the B surface. (Author)
