Tensile Circumferential Stresses Created by the Unloading Mechanism of a Suddenly Punched Hole in a Stretched Elastic Plate,

Abstract

THE DYNAMIC STESSES CREAED IN A STRETCHED ELASIC PLATE, BY THE SDDEN PUNCHING OF A HOLE AT ITS CENTER ARE CONSIDERED. Complete information is presented on the tensile circumferential stesses generted by the unloading waves which are creaed during punching. It is shown that the maximm dynaic stress in the vicinity of the hole is considerably larger than it related stati value. It is pointed out that this will be important to the creation of a propagating crack. (Author)
