Mechanization and Automation of the Soviet Rubber Industry.

Abstract

Mechanization and automation of the Soviet rubber industry and progress achieved in this direction are discussed. Significant shortcomings presented are: (1) inadequate information on the activities of scientific research and design institutes and poor coordination of scientific research and experimental design studies; (2) the hampering of serial production of new machinery by delays in the production and acceptance testing of experimental models; (3) the poor organization of the production of accessories, such as instruments, pickups, fittings, and drives; (4) the absence of experimental facilities in machinery plants; and (5) the lag in studies on the mechanization of loading-unloading operations, where manual labor is still used.
