Evidence for a Three-Pion Resonance Near 550 Mev,

Abstract

DESCRIPTORS: (*B s, *S et , *Cr ep, *Buckling, Equation of state S ability, Elasticity, T eory.) (Aluminum alloy , Tests.) A creep buckling t eory is developed based upon fundamental concepts of a mechanical equation of state to repr s n the tim depen e t b havior at instability of columns and also a time dep ndent for ul tion of the gov rning differ ntial equation and stability criterion. T e predictions of this theory as well as those of other classical stability hypotheses are t e cor related with rece experimental data of creep buckling of 2024-0 Al alloy columns. A simplified approach for prediction of creep buckling is also pres nted nd this is correlated with test data on columns of v rious Al alloys, T I ALLOYS, A D !+-+PH stainless steel Conclusions are drawn as to the predictive value of classical stability approaches and to certain important difficulties in correlating t e d ta which are related to the short time failure behavior of columns at elevated temper tures nd which seem to have been overlooked in the past.
