ADEPT COMPUTER CONTROL
Abstract
The introduction of computer control into an automatic testing system has a pronounced effect on the characteristics of the system. An objective study was performed to determine how to achieve the most benefit from the extended testing capabilities provided by computer control. Test requirements were analyzed as the basis for establishing testing system performance specifications and desirable computer characteristics. A hypothetical computer, especially suit d for automatic testing, was conceived and described in sufficient detail to permit actual programming of a sample test. Benefits of computer control are described in specific as well as general terms, showing both immediate and potential advantages. Physical realizability, reliability, and maintainability were considered to determine the practicality of a program to pursue development of a system conforming to that described. (Author)
