AUTOMATING THE INTRODUCTION OF CERTAIN TYPES OF DATA INTO A COMPUTER

Abstract

A method is discussed for automatically transforming functions, given in form of graphs, oscillograms or other visible images into numerical (table) form. This secures the possibility of directly utilizing the obtained data on digital computers for solving many problems e. g. for finding interpolation polynomials, for making numerical integration and differentiation, solving many differential equations etc. When solving these or other problems on automatic digital computers there is a need of reducing the data fed into the machine into table form. If these data have the initial form of graphs, oscillograms, photos, then the procedure of transforming same into table form as assigned by the man-operator consumes much time, which may appear to be nonpermissible at the existing tendency of increasing the rate of calculating. It is therefore advisable to examine the possibility of automating the transformation of data from graphic into table form. (Author)
