INVESTIGATION OF ANTENNA BEAM SCANNING

Abstract

A theoretical study of the antenna configuration was made to determine: (1) design data for the Wullenweber array, and (2) design of a commutator suitable for generating the proper driving distribution. Far field contour patterns were calculated for the feed ring radii of 10, 20, 40, AND 60 LAMBDA AND FOCAL LENGTHS OF 5 AND 7.5 LAMBDA. Patterns were also calculated for the feed ring positioned off focus by 1, 2, and 3 beamwidths to determine higher angle coverage capabilities. Commu ator work consisted mainly of the redesign of a previously built commutator. (Author)
