PRINCIPAL AXES FACTOR ANALYSIS PROGRAM FOR THE IBM TYPE 709
Abstract
A program is to be developed which will compute eigenvalues, normalized eigenvectors, and principal axes factor loading vectors for symmetric matrices of order as large as 242. Where the number of observations does not exceed 242, the program may be applied to considerably larger matrices in conjunction with a system reported elsewhere (Burket, 1961). The program may also be used to obtain a rapid solution for an arbitrary factor loading matrix which, for a given rank, will account for approximately as much variance as the corresponding principal axes solution, and which will also reduce the rank of the residual by exactly one for each factor extracted.
