SMALL DEFLECTIONS OF NON-UNIFORM BEAMS

Abstract

Laplace transform techniques are used to obtain general solutions for small deflections of nonuniform beams subjected to transverse loading. Solutions are first obtained for a beam whose cross-section is composed of a sum of step functions (stepped beam). Using a sum of step functions to approximate a beam with continuously varying cross-section and carrying out a limiting process, a solution is obtained in terms of Stieltjes integrals. (Author)
