THE TRAVELLING SOLVENT METHOD OF CRYSTAL GROWTH

Abstract

Work was carried out in the following areas: The GaAs - Ga System: (1) investigation of the dissolution of GaAs in liquid Ga; (2) passing a liquid Ga zone through GaAs to produce a single crystal of GaAs; and (3) construction of an apparatus to investigate the applicability of the peltier effect to zone movement. The SiC - Cr System: (1) construction of an apparatus to investigate the feasibility of passing liquid Cr zones through SiC; and (2) preliminary zone movement experiments. (Author)
