MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF 7075-T6 STEPPED EXTRUSIONS

Abstract

A study was made to determine the fatigue strengths and tensile properties at the step and in adjacent parts of the large and small ends of 7075-T6 stepped extrusions. The tensile and yield strengths are generally higher for specimens taken from the small end than those from the large end; also, the tensile properties of specimens from across the step are appreciably lower than those taken from either the large or small end of the extrusion. The fatigue strengths, regardless of location in the extrusion, were as good as or better than those considered typical for 7075-T6 products. There appeared to be no significant difference between the fatigue strengths of specimens taken from across the step and those from either the large or small end of the extrusion. (Author)
