EXPERIMENTS IN THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE IMPULSE RESPONSE OF TELEPHONE CIRCUITS
Abstract
The problem of shortening the duration of the telephone circuit impulse response by filtering is considered. It is shown that high-pass filtering achieves the desired result with an attendant loss in circuit bandwidth, while perfect phase equalization (matched filtering) obtains better results with no loss in bandwidth. It is also shown that matched filtering results in a more desirable pulse than is obtained by the combination of both matched and high-pass filtering. (Author)
