ORBITS WITH FIXED LOW THRUST

Abstract

The method of Krylov-Bogoliuboff is used to analyze orbits with an additional low thrust in a fixed direction in the orbit plane. Algebraic formulas for orbital elements are obtained. It is shown that eventually the orbital eccentricity increases to 1 with the orbit approaching a straight line through the center of the earth. However, in a practical case, it is likely that collision would occur before escape. (Author)
