CESIUM ION PROPELLANT SYSTEM

Abstract

The cesium ion propellant system consists of the hardware necessary to store, meter, vaporize, and superheat cesium to allow delivery of this vapor at the flow rate, pressure, and temperature consistent with the requirements of contact ion propulsion devices now under investigation. Presented are the results of compatibility and handling studies for cesium, design, and development of separate system components, and integration of the components into a laboratory system including the results of a one week endurance test.
