THEORETICAL PERFORMANCE BOUNDS FOR VARIABLE DATA RATE TRANSMISSIONS ON FADING CIRCUITS

Abstract

Variable data rate transmissions are considered as a means of counteracting adverse effects of fading. Theoretical bounds on attainable improvements are derived as a guideline to more exhaustive studies. It is shown that relatively simple suboptimum systems offer virtually as good performance as the most elaborate system. (Author)
