A COMPARISON OF THE CHOLINESTERASE LEVELS BETWEEN DUODENAL AND ILEAL TISSUES OF THE RABBIT

Abstract

In vitro responses of the intestinal tissue of male New Zealand white rabbits to 5 logarithmically spaced concentrations of acetylcholine chloride indicated a slightly greater response for duodenal than for ileal segments. The difference did not appear to have either biological or statistical significance. issue homogenates prep red from freshly killed animals demonstrated a statisicaly significant (less than 0.01 level of probability) difference in the amount of acetylcholine hydrolysis found for ileal segments compared to the duodenal segments. When tissues from the in vitro study were homogenize , some loss of cholinesterase was evident but the reduction was small and of no statistical significance.
