INFRARED COATING STUDIES

Abstract

A survey was initiated of the reststrahlen of materials in the 15-38-micron region. The validity was investigated of classical dispersion theory when applied to reststrahlen regions. It is suggested that simple classical dispersion relations, wh n applicable, provide a convenient way to determine the optical constants of a material from a knowledge of its reflectance. It appears that the dispersion of materials in a single resonance reststrahlen region is more easily described by the simple classical theory than by Kramers-Kronig relations. (Author)
