A STUDY OF PLASMA INTERACTION WITH TRAVELING WAVES

Abstract

Properties of a transmission system consisting of a plasma column and a slow-wave circuit are investigated. The effect of the presence of plasma on the natural propagating mode of the circuit is investigated, including the secondorder effects in plasma. A study of coupled modes of propagation involving a helix and a space-charge mode of the plasma column is presented. The experimental work carried out to measure the coupled modes of propagation is described. The parametric gain of a forward-wave amplifier, using a helix as the traveling-wave circuit, is calculated using the measured values of circuit parameters. (Author)
